Richard Lipez of The Washington Post has reviews of five new crime fiction novels coming up in tomorrow's Book World. He takes a look at THE GRAVING DOCK By Gabriel Cohen featuring NYPD detective Jack Leightner; two police procedurals set in Korea, HIDDEN MOON By James Church and THE WANDERING GHOST By Martin Limon; the historical suspense novel THE TOMB OF ZEUS By Barbara Cleverly, and the thriller WHO IS CONRAD HIRST? By Kevin Wignall.
A new mystery bookclub got underway this month, titled Heartsong Presents–-Mysteries! Book Club. It's a product of Christian publisher Barbour Publishing, Inc (all the authors have books published by Barbour), and thus its stated goal to provide mysteries in the lighthearted, cozy, "whodunit" (a/k/a "family friendly") vein.
The Book Standard reported the other day that "BookShorts," a media production and distribution company specializing in author videos and films based on books, has introduced a new event to celebrate the blending literary and film projects: the Moving Stories Film Festival. Filmmakers of any kind--from amateurs to veterans--can submit recently-made films and videos to the festival, as long as they are based on any form of literature, including poetry, novellas, nonfiction and full-length novels." The contest will compile selected films into a 90-minute presentation to be screened in Canada and the U.S. after BookExpo Canada in June. But you'd better hurry--the contest has an early-bird deadline of Feb. 15 and the regular deadline of March 15.
