Thriller writer Jeffery Deaver has been tapped by the Ian Fleming estate to write the next James Bond novel, due for release in May 2011.
Laura Lippman's novel Every Secret Thing is being adapted by director Nicole Holofcener for the big screen. No definite film contract or date has been set.
There's also a film version in the works of a novel by Bill Pronzini, Boobytrap. The screenplay is in the hands of Michael A. Simpson (Crazy Heart), and the director on board is Nicholas Powell (Bourne Identity). The cast hasn't been determined, but the distribution chain is already in place.TV
The new Canadian series The Bridge will be aired on CBS starting Saturday, July 10 at 8 p.m. The series follows a charismatic union leader who is battling criminals on the street while fighting his own bosses and corruption in the ranks as he tries to protect his fellow officers.
TNT has unveiled 11 new original series for its fall schedule, including Graysmith, based on the life of cartoonist, writer and part-time private detective Robert Graysmith, with Ridley Scott as executive producer; Green Detective from Steven Bochco and Jonathan Abrahams which follows a quirky environmentalist who seeks the truth as an insurance adjuster; Brain Trust, centering on a recently demoted detective who teams with four brilliant but socially awkward academics to solve crimes; and Miss Philly, set in Philadelphia where the mayor has hired the first African-American police commissioner.
Lost director Jack Bender will head up a supernatural crime drama for Syfy, titled Alphas, about "a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills and take the law into their own hands."
