Daniel Craig is close to sealing a deal to take the lead role in the first installment of the U.S. adaptation of Steig Larssen's trilogy, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Craig will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist, although the pivotal character of Lisbeth Salander has yet to be cast. The movie starts filming shoot in October, and is currently has a release date in December 2011.
It appears that Elmore Lenoard's novel The Switch may be coming to the big screen. Producer Michael Siegel is working with screenwriter Dan Schechter, and Leonard himself will be given an Exec Producer credit. It's billed as a prequel to the hit film Jackie Brown which was also based on Leonard material from the novel Rum Punch. A previous film, Ruthless People with Danny DeVito, Bette Middler, and Judge Reinhold, was also loosely based on The Switch, although it appears Siegel's version may be closer to the novel.
The seemingly ubiquitous director J.J. Abrams (or is that omnipresent, considering his god-like clout in Hollywood right now?) may take on a true crime story that was printed in a Wired magazine article titled "The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist," by Joshua Davis. Paramount acquired the rights to the story in 2009.
The sequel to the recent Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law seems to have been given a release date: December 16, 2011. So mark your calendars now.
