John

The Muslim detective interests me more than any other. I'll look for this at our library just for that story. Never heard of Pachter, but I do spend far too much time in the early 20th century writings in crime fiction.

Todd Mason

One of that series by Manly Wade Wellman won the Ellery Queen award over William Faulkner, iirc, which led to Faulkner throwing a tantrum at the ceremony...

Both stories are a nice change of page, John, and probably more interesting than the stories by the better-known author authors included. Of course, with possibly millions of stories out there by thousands of authors over the past century and a half, I think you can be forgiven for not having come across these before! (The same reason I feel overwhelmed at times and wish for a reading clone.)

Really, Todd? Wow! I confess I hadn't heard that story. Poor Billy Faulkner. Boo hoo. No one will remember him anyway, right? :-)
