The NEA has been expanding its "Big Read" program over the past couple of years and has now assisted hundreds of communities in choosing a book from its selected list as a point of departure for discussions, theatrical readings, lectures, and other events. This year's listing includes The Maltese Falcon, which is what Chicago has adopted (as we mentioned the other day) for their 2008 community celebration. In case you don't know, there is an Events Calendar on the NEA site from which you can select The Maltese Falcon in the drop-down menu box and see all the events surrounding the book that are scheduled throughout the country as part of the Big Read program. There are FAR too many to list here, but go ahead and check it out and see what activites might be scheduled near you.
