If you're in an area of the country that's beginning to feel the pinch of autumnal chill and happen to have this weekend free, you might consider heading down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the 18th Annual South Carolina Writers Workshop, October 24-26th. The highs are currently forecast to be in the 70s and the lows near 60, and if you're a hardy soul, you would probably find the tidal waters "bracing."
The Keynote Speaker this year is Michael Connelly (of Harry Bosch series fame) and the Toastmaster is Lee Goldberg (Edgar nominee and author of Diagnosis Murder and Monk novels), who will also teach seminars on screenwriting and writing for television. Also on hand will be thriller author James O. Born, leading seminars on Point of View, Backstory, and Building Suspense. Other authors in various disciplines, as well as several agents, editors, and publishers will round out the faculty and there will also be opportunities for manuscript critiques.
If you can't make this one, there are other conferences related to mystery/crime fiction in the Conferences link on the right-hand side of this blog, and you can also check out the Shaw Guides.
