The ninth annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Film Festival in Palm Springs begins May 28th, and festival director Alan K. Rode says that the 2009 film schedule "may very well be our best ever." The slate, which runs through May 31st, includes several films either rarely seen or not available on DVD such as the 1947 classic Riffraff (with a special appearance by actress Anne Jeffreys), Desert Fury, and the 1950 RKO classic Armored Car Robbery. Festival passes include access to all 14 film screenings, opening and closing night events and all special guest appearances.
Opening night features Bigger than Life (1956), "A forgotten, noir-stained classic" directed by the great Nicholas Ray (Rebel without a Cause, In a Lonely Place, They Live by Night) and starring James Mason, Barbara Rush (the special guest for the evening), and Walter Matthau.
