The latest version of the annual Best American Mystery Stories (the 13th in the series) was just released on October 8th. Edited by Jeffery Deaver and Otto Penzler, the anthology has offerings from Alafair Burke, James Lee Burke, Michael Connelly, David Corbett, Chuck Hogan, Clark Howard, Robert McClure, Alice Munro, Joyce Carol Oates and Kristine Kathrine Rusch, among others, 20 stories in all. I haven't gotten my hands on a copy yet, but I'm looking forward to reading it soon. And don't miss the “Other Distinguished Mystery Stories of 2008" index at the back of the book, which lists other worthy stories you can track down for more fun reading fodder. The book's available via all the usual chain store suspects, as well as the Indies.
