Good things happening to good people -- that's the kind of news I like to hear, but it seems in short supply these days, so here's some for you:
Multiple-award-winning author Laura Lippman has been elected President of the Mystery Writers of America for 2010. The MWA doesn't have a Press Release yet, but hopefully one will be forthcoming soon. (Hat tip to Carla Coupe, with the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of MWA). Lippman's latest novel, Life Sentences, was published in March of this year.
Also, author, critic, and columnist for Shots Magazine, Mike Ripley, has been appointed as the Series Editor for Top Notch Thrillers, an imprint of print-on-demand Ostara Publishing, which will draw mostly from the 1960s and 1970s to "revive Great British thrillers which do not deserve to be forgotten, each title to be chosen not just for its plot or sense of adventure but for the distinctiveness and quality of the writing."
Kudos to both Laura and Mike and continued thanks for all their many contributions to crime fiction.
