UK supermarket giant Tesco is teaming up with media company Amber Entertainment to adapt direct-to-DVD movie versions of various novels by contemporary authors. They've got a fairly big budget and Amber's producer Ileen Maisel, formerly of New Line Cinema, behind the projects. First up is a movie based on the 1999 bestselling murder mystery LA Connections by Jackie Collins, but others will soon follow, including possibly works by authors Dick Francis, Karin Slaughter and Anne Perry. Amblen's Lawrence Elman said, "Normally when an author works with a film-maker, they just sign on the
dotted line and then shake hands, before they are told, 'Thank you very
much. See you at the premiere.' Instead, we have offered them a
partnership and it is very enticing for them."
