Music Box Films is releasing the second film in the Stieg Larsson trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire, on July 9, with all sorts of tie-ins, including free passes, a free documentary, and appropriately, free temporary tattoos.
Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf look like they're set to star in the upcoming thriller Riptide, a whodunit murder mystery set on board a ship called the Nautica. An investigator (presumably Pitt) is called in when one of the passengers on board is found floating dead in the sea.
A few months ago, it was announced that the next installment in the James Bond series with Daniel Craig had been suspended indefinitely due to financial problems. Now it looks like the project has been cancelled. An unidentified insider mourned that "There is a lot of bad feeling as a lot of time, money and hard work has already gone into this."

Sunday, July 11, is the first installment in a trio of new Poirot mysteries on PBS Masterpiece Mystery! It's Murder on the Orient Express starring David Suchet. This Wednesday, July 7, PBS will also air an hour-long documentary of a present-day journey aboard the train also starring Suchet, called David Suchet on the Orient Express. To celebrate Christie (whose 120th birthday is this year), Masterpiece Mystery! is organizing an online Suchet Q&A at pbs.org/masterpiece/poirot, and a Twitter event during the broadcast of Murder on the Orient Express which will include experts from Mystery Readers International, Mystery Scene and the Strand magazines.
The rejected Fox pilot Breakout Kings has been picked up by A&E for 13 episodes. The drama series features was created by Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead (Prison Break) and revolves around a group of U.S. marshals and ex-cons that team up to apprehend escaped criminals.The spinoff of Criminal Minds, the police procedural drama series based on the FBI's BAU unit, has signed stand-up comedian/actress/political activist Janeane Garofalo as an actress and model, Beau Jessie Garrett as the two female leads. Academy-award winner Forest Whitaker will be playing the male lead.
The film based on Michael Connelly's novel The Lincoln Lawyer has finally made it to pre-production. Plans are to begin filming this summer, with a projected 2011 release. The cast list includes Marisa Tomei, Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillippe, Katherine Moennig, John Leguizamo, and William H. Macy.
The new series based on Tess Gerritsen characters, Rizzoli & Isles, premieres July 12th on TNT. Angie Harmon (Law & Order) stars as Jane Rizzoli, a Boston homicide detective, and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) stars as Maura Isles, a forensic pathologist in the Boston Medical Examiner's office. Crimespree Cinema has a sneak peak of the first episode.
Cactus TV in the UK has prepared a season of documentaries to identify the "Nation's Favourite Detective," with the first installment set for August 31st featuring profiles of Morse and Frost. The other five episodes pair Tom Barnaby and Wycliffe, Wexford and Foyle, Jane Tennison and Marple, Poirot and Sherlock Holmes and Lewis and Rebus. Barry Forshaw, whose books include The Rough Guide to Crime Fiction and British Crime Writing, will be on hand to discuss the various celebrated sleuths.WEB/RADIO
