Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival starts today in Harrogate. Some of the headliner authors this year include David Baldacci, Linwood Barclay, Lee Child, Martina Cole, Lisa Gardner, Tess Gerritsen, Dennis Lehane and Howard Marks. The It's a Crime! (Or a Mystery) blog has a little celebratory poem introduction for you, and author/blogger Martin Edwards is going to be on hand and hopefully report back.
In advance of the festival, BBC News profiled three female "Crime Writers with Killer Ideas" and there's even a new ale by sponsor Theakston that was created in honor of the event: blood red in color and boasting a faint aroma of almonds, which is often associated with poisonous cyanide.
