I love Erle Stanley Gardner's Cool and Lam novels, but this is one I haven't gotten to yet. It's good to know there are still more entries in this series for me to anticipate.

Since there are 30 of the Cool and Lam books, and this is the 3rd of 4th from the last, I can understand why you might not have gotten to it just yet, Jeff! That's a long list, indeed. I'm surprised that these novels haven't been released en masse yet, although we have Hard Case Crime to thank for publishing the "missing" Cool and Lam novel, THE KNIFE SLIPPED, and one other, TOP OF THE HEAP. Maybe more will be forthcoming ...

I just read THE KNIFE SLIPPED, the second Lam and Cool mystery in the series but was only recently published by HARD CASE CRIME. Although Gardner wrote 30 of these novels, I've only read about 14. Nice review!

That was an interesting story behind THE KNIFE SLIPPED, George. The publisher objected to (among other things) Bertha Cool’s tendency to "talk tough, swear, smoke cigarettes, and try to gyp people." Ah, how times have changed ...
