I have read all (I think) of Terhune's dog books, as a boy and a grown-up. We had a Collie when I was a child, a lovely dog, and that added to the love. I also read and still have MASTER OF SUNNYBANK, a biography of his dog raising days. It's worth a read. I had no idea he wrote a mystery.

Interesting post about this one. I reviewed his mystery adventure novel SECRET OF SEA-DREAM HOUSE about two years ago. Exciting and very entertaining despite his tendency to indulge in florid prose. Coincidentally, SECRET... is also set in Southern Florida and deals with pirate legends and features Native American characters. I think Terhune lived in Florida during the 1920s. He certainly was fascinated with its colorful history.

Now that John reminds us, I did read that review of his, so I DID know Terhune wrote mysteries. It just...slipped my mind.

I always wanted a collie when I was a kid, Rick! I haven't read any of Terhune's dog books, but I'm glad to hear "Master" is a good book to add to my list.

I'll have to also add "Secret" to my list, John. My husband's family is from south Florida, so it's fun to read books that are set in the state's "wilder" days (although some would say Florida is pretty wild today, too).
