It's National Library Week in the U.S, and 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the first such celebration. Today's specific theme is "Take Action for Libraries Day," a national library advocacy effort observed for the first time in 2017 in response to proposed cuts to federal funds for libraries. The American Library Association has some steps you can take to help online, but such efforts also start at the local level. Look around your community and see if there are ways you can support your public and school libraries through volunteering, civic action, or participating in local programs.
